Auto roles

Roles on join – separately for humans and bots, instantly, after the rules or delayed. Plus roles on rejoin and announcements on role changes.

How it works

Dashboard → Auto roles.

  • Roles for humans: up to 10 roles for new members, e.g. “Member”.
  • Roles for bots: separate roles for bots joining the server, e.g. “Bots” – always instant.
  • When?
    • Instantly on join – or
    • After the rules / verification: only once the person has accepted the Discord rules (Server Settings → Membership requirements) and – if ZoneBuddy verification is on – has verified.
    • plus a delay: e.g. 10 minutes. Handy against bots that join briefly and leave again.

Tip: The ZoneBuddy role must be above all auto roles in the role list.

Roles on rejoin

With “Restore roles”, ZoneBuddy remembers roles when someone leaves the server and gives them back when they return – together with the auto roles and at the same time. They are stored for 180 days.

Important: ZoneBuddy never automatically restores roles with team permissions (Administrator, Manage Server, Manage Roles, Ban, Kick, Timeout, Manage Channels/Webhooks/Emojis). That way nobody can gain permissions by leaving and rejoining.

Announcement on role change

For up to 10 roles, you can have a message sent to a channel when someone gets the role – and optionally when they lose it. It doesn’t matter whether the role is given by hand, via a role menu, a level reward or an application.

Placeholder Meaning
{user.mention} Mention of the person
{user.name} Display name
{role.name} Name of the role
{server.name} Name of the server

Example: 🎉 {user.mention} is now **{role.name}**!

Moving over from “Welcome”

Auto roles used to be set under Welcome. Those roles still apply and appear on the new page as “carried over”. From the first save, only the Auto roles page manages them.
